Lots of time is spent in the kitchen. Prepping for family dinners. Making a snack for your kids. Waiting by the microwave while the popcorn finishes during a commercial break. Creating a space that works well for your family is important. Utilizing functional details is a great way to ensure all of the space is being used, and using it well.
This kitchen is full of decisions based on the clients needs. A large island and lots of prep space, tons of natural light, an area designated for coffee, loads of storage, and design elements that are consistent throughout the home. Taking the time to think about where exactly each item should go can make your kitchen design perfect for you.
When planning the layout of this renovation, we looked at the angled ceilings and beans as an opportunity to increase storage vertically. Cabinets are custom going from floor to ceiling. This allows for more storage especially since the full length of the kitchen’s exterior wall is windows. Even though this window may seem like it takes away from the storage, it brings in so much natural light. To include this window, we found ways to bring more storage into the space.
The oversized island is full of different kinds of storage. With specific drawer styles, each bowl, pot, and pan has a home. When every item has a specific space to be stored, keeping things organized is that much easier. The cabinets have a seamless look with the dishwasher featuring the same cabinetry panel.
Contrast was an important design element in this space. Two-toned cabinets are a great choice when adding multiple colors or textures to your space. To bring even more contrast into the space, this client didn’t stop at the cabinetry. The countertops even contrast. The wood-toned island cabinetry is paired with white counters and the white cabinets sit below black counters.
The details throughout this kitchen are consistent throughout the home. With wood tones featured throughout the space there is a natural feel in the home. The large windows in the kitchen bring in lots of natural light, but give incredible views of the landscape around the home.
